Student Competition Engagement

Description

LEARN Logistics financially supports national, regional, or international student competitions. A student competition is an event in which a single student or a group of students at undergraduate or postgraduate levels enter a solution, concept note, presentation, model, etc… to address a challenge as described by the competition committee. Typically, a jury assesses the submitted solutions and ranks the authoring students/group of students from top to bottom. The top ranked solutions usually win a prize in the form of cash or participation in a conference or even international level challenge. Each winning student will also obtain a winner certificate to add to its CV.

Student competitions can be initiated and distributed by any university or academic institution, or by a commercial organization, or by a non-profit organization such as a foundation, a networking, or a charity organization. Additionally, student challenges might also be initiated by Ministries or governmental- / non-governmental organizations. Please remember that the student challenge you may plan to enter shall have a link to the topics of logistics, supply chain management, transportation, or procurement. Potentially, students can also participate in student competitions if the challenge seeks for to a business management or e.g., entrepreneurial solution. In such cases, the submitted solution will have to include a logistics or supply chain management-related approach and concept to be considered for funding.

A good example is the annual The Social Logistics Challenge - GBSN by the Global Business School Network (GBSN) which every early autumn opens a student competition that asks for socially and logistically relevant and innovate solutions. The cash prize for the winning group is USD 5,000.

Eligibility for Student Competition Funding and Conditions

LEARN Logistics aims to enable students to excel academically independently of their financial background. The participation in a student competition at national or international level is a very good opportunity to showcase academic excellence. Therefore, LEARN Logistics offers financial support to students that help to develop competitive solutions to the posed challenges. Interested students have two options to apply for funding:

Option 1: Students can apply for funding prior to registering with the student competition.

  • Advantage: you will know if LEARN Logistics funds your student competition budget
  • Risk: your application might lack the specific budget, cost breakdown and reasoning before you have actually started with the competition.

Option 2: Students can apply for funding while they already participate in the student competition.

  • Advantage: you have a specific idea of what you need funding for and justify your budget and cost breakdown very well
  • Risk: LEARN Logistics may reject your application (for various reasons)

If your application for a Student Competition Funding is successful, LEARN Logistics may fund the following items:

  • Necessary rental or purchase of software programs or hardware components to directly apply in the concept design during the student challenge (e.g., professional versions of survey software, etc…)
  • Purchase of model building material
  • Transport allowance for extensive local travel
  • Small financial compensation for participating individuals (e.g., as part of interviews, etc…); only if required
