Description
LEARN Logistics recognizes the importance of high-quality research that specifically addresses locally and regionally relevant challenges and topics. Leading research will improve the individual academic’s knowhow and reputation as well as the university’s quality ranking and attractiveness for students and graduates. Reseach grantes funded by LEARN Logistics will be provided once every year and allow for single-university or multiple-university applications. Typically, funded research project have a duration between 9 and 18 months and must result in academic publications (e.g., internationally ranked and peer-reviewed Academic Journals), and preferably also more user-friendly practive reporting for the private and public sector.
Please note that LEARN Logistics’ research funding is of competitive nature, i.e., academics must apply for funding and comply with the specific funding requirements and research focuses as outlined in the respective annual “Call for Proposals”. Generally, any research proposal must related to the broad topic of logistics and supply chain management. Only a limited number of application will successfully obtain a LEARN Logistics research grant, i.e., LEARN Logistics is under no obligation to accept or fund all or any submitted research proposal.
Eligibility for Participation and Funding Conditions
LEARN Logistics will award research grants to the author(s) of the best proposals submitted in response to the current Call for Proposals. Please review the latest open “Call for Proposals” to learn about the respective maximum amounts (in EUR) for the two eligible funding models, i.e., any Proposal for Research Funding must comply with either Funding Model 1 or 2:
- Funding Model 1: researchers who conduct local research projects, i.e., research will be conducted with researchers from a single university; and
- Funding Model 2: researchers who conduct regional research projects, i.e., research projects will jointly be carried out by researchers from two or three universities located in different countries.

All submitted applications will be reviewed and assessed by a LEARN Logistics selection committee based on the following criteria:
- Thematic fit with theme of LSCM;
- Clarity of research aims and objectives;
- Suitability of research methodology and methods of data collection and analysis;
- Result significance (scientific, societal, economic)
Applicants will be informed of the status of their application in January of the following year. Those submissions selected for funding must start in the first quarter of the following year after research proposal submission. The research project is completed when its outcome can be presented in a written and publication-ready format. The due date for presenting the outcome will be 31st December of the following year after submission of the research proposal – unless otherwise agreed upon writing and approval by LEARN Logistics. Researchers who produced outstanding and impactful research will be given an opportunity to present their findings at the Annual African Conference on Operations and Supply Chain Management (www.acoscm.com).
Please note that only a limited number of application will successfully obtain a LEARN Logistics research funding, i.e., LEARN Logistics is under no obligation to accept or fund all or any submitted research proposal. Further, by completing the online submission form for research proposals, you are giving consent to LEARN Logistics’ policy data. Specifically, your date will be used and stored for i) administrative purposes; ii) to evaluate your application; and iii) for the use of de-identified data for research. By completing the online funding application, the submitting author declares that all information is correct, and that all personal data provided has been consented by each individual researcher involved in the research proposal. Any submitted research proposal with falsified, misleading, non-consented, and inappropriate information or data will be fully rejected. Further, the submitting individual as well as any other involved individual in the proposal might be excluded from further applications, and/or involvement in any other LEARN Logistics-funded or -organized activities and events. Your submitted research proposal must include in the following mandatory information and data:
- Basis Data about the involved researcher(s) incl. contact details
- Research title, and a reasonable acronym
- Research abstract (max. 1,500 words)
- Description of the research problem and knowledge gap (max. 250 words)
- Research aim and objectives (max. 250 words)
- Research design and methodology (max. 500 words)
- Significance of the research and expected outcomes of the project (max. 500 words)
- List of references
- Dissemination strategy (max. 250 words)
