Climate change is a major global concern due to the massive emissions of greenhouse gases into the environment. Mangoes have a significant economic impact across the globe. Global warming scientists are increasingly recommending adoption of mango production among smallholder farmers as a component of agroforestry. This is because mangoes use up more carbon than they emit. However, in Kenya up to 50% of postharvest losses are reported in fruits. Lack of sustainable postharvest technologies has been identified as a key driver of the postharvest losses. Consequently, in 2018 the University of Nairobi's postharvest project with support from the Rockefeller Foundation's YieldWise Initiative provided applicable zero-energy postharvest technologies (ZEPTs) such as zero-energy brick coolers and tunnel solar dryers to two farmer groups in Embu and Machakos Counties. Hence there’s need to assess the adoption and impact of these technologies on household income. Primary and secondary data will be used in this study. Multistage sampling technique will be used to generate a representative sample of adopters and non-adopters of the technologies in the two counties. For data analysis, the endogenous switching regression model will be use to assess the determinants and the impact of adoption on household income. Results of this study shall inform development of climate smart postharvest technologies and also provide a basis for promoting the technologies.

Urbanization in developing countries has led to increased challenges in the logistics of public transportation supply services, impacting the efficiency and sustainability of urban mobility. This research project conducts a strategic analysis of urban mobility logistics with a specific focus on ameliorating public transportation supply services in the developing countries of Djibouti (Djibouti city) and Ethiopia (Addis Ababa city). The study employs a case study approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methodologies to comprehensively investigate the current state of urban mobility logistics and identify key challenges and opportunities. This project is structured into three distinct phases. Firstly, an evaluation will be conducted to assess the accessibility of public transportation. Secondly, the study will explore the inclusive aspects of public transportation, exploring how it accommodates diverse segments of the population. Lastly, an optimized public transportation supply will be introduced for each city, utilizing an adapted logistic system designed to enhance efficiency and responsiveness to the unique needs of each urban environment.

The research begins with a thorough literature review, providing an overview of urban mobility logistics and examining previous studies related to public transportation in developing countries. The theoretical framework establishes the conceptual models and relevant theories that guide the analysis of public transportation supply services. The methodology section outlines the research design, data collection methods, and ethical considerations employed in the study.

Urban mobility logistics assessment encompasses an in-depth analysis of transportation infrastructure, traffic management, and the efficiency of public transportation supply services. By comparing Djibouti and Addis Ababa, the study identifies unique challenges and opportunities within each context. The research not only highlights logistic challenges but also proposes sustainable solutions and policy recommendations to enhance urban mobility.

The findings contribute to the existing body of knowledge on urban transportation logistics and provide valuable insights for policymakers, urban planners, and transportation authorities in developing      countries. The research aims to foster a deeper understanding of the dynamics of urban mobility logistics and facilitate the development of strategies that address the evolving needs of these rapidly         urbanizing regions.

Despite agri-foods being seasonal and location-specific, consumers now expect all-year-round access to fresh or slightly processed agri-produce due to their nutritional value. This has resulted in the growing demand for temperature-sensitive foods globally. Nigeria is the fourth-largest importer of frozen fish globally, after China, Japan, and the United States. Ghana imports 65% and 50% of chicken products and frozen fish, respectively, to compensate for the demand-supply gap. Also, Ethiopia imports large quantities of frozen chickens. However, the ineffective use of modern equipment has caused a decline in food quality over time, resulting in product quality compromise, food poisoning, economic loss and quantity food loss. To ensure food quality and safety, maintaining the predetermined temperature of the temperature-sensitive products throughout the supply chain is crucial. Due to ignorance or resource constraints, most actors in this     sector transport their purchased products without cold vans or reefer containers. Despite the surge in the frozen food business in developing countries, there is limited empirical literature on how sustainable supply chain orientation could create a competitive advantage for businesses in developing countries. A sustainable supply chain orientation is proposed to make frozen food supply chain actors competitive. Also, the data for this study will be collected from three countries (Ghana, Nigeria and Ethiopia) for comparative analysis. This study investigates how the indirect relationship between sustainable supply chain orientation and firm competitiveness through operational flexibility is conditioned by the relational capability of actors in the temperature-sensitive food supply chain.

The main objective of the study is to examine the effectiveness of recycling container plastic waste generated from the beverages industry in Tanzania towards promoting environmental sustainability. Specifically, the study will assess the current status quo on recycling, evaluate how effective and what impact recycling plastic waste can have on a socio-economic point; and lastly, propose strategies to nurture and promote sustainability practices in the country’s manufacturing industry.     

Qualitative data will be collected through interviews, from pre-selected case study manufacturers will be used. The selection of these manufacturers will be based on       their market share, which will provide a good idea of the scale of plastic waste they put out and recycle potentially. The study will also leverage secondary data to discern best practices from other regions of the world and this will enable us to offer strategies as per objective number 3 of this study. Dissemination of the findings will leverage publications on reputable and relevant journals, presentations in conferences; and government policy engagement and industry collaboration. We hope that the findings   of this study will be pivotal in promoting sustainability practices not just in the beverage manufacturing industries, but across the board. Furthermore, we hope that this     study will increase awareness in the community on sustainable practices.

Climate change, identified as the predominant global health threat, amplifies health risks through extreme weather events, impacting health care facilities and supply chains. This study focuses on Ethiopia, where climate change exacerbates challenges in health supply chains. The research aims to assess the readiness and adaptability of the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Services (EPSS) to climate change impacts, recognizing vulnerabilities, and proposing resilience strategies. The study will employs a cross-sectional mixed-methods design, combining surveys, questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions. Quantitative methods involve statistical analysis to correlate climate variables, disease patterns, and supply chain disruptions. Qualitative methods explore stakeholders' perspectives on climate change impacts and resilience strategies. Ethical considerations include obtaining clearance and informed consent. The project's significance will lies in contributing innovative strategies to enhance health supply chain resilience, aligning with Ethiopia's climate change policies. Expected outcomes include evidence-based recommendations for policy interventions at national and regional levels. This research aligns with global efforts to address climate change's health impacts, providing actionable insights for Ethiopia's health care facilities and supply chains. The research timeline encompasses data collection, analysis, and reporting, while the budget covers tools, travel, and accommodation expenses. The mixed-methods approach ensures a comprehensive understanding, facilitating the generation of impactful recommendations.
