PhD Seminar - Academic Writing and Publishing [2026]

Crafting an academic paper is a complex task. Young scholars and tenured professors often struggle to compose compelling research studies. Research studies require rigor and structure to be published. This course focuses on writing skills in academic writing that effectively enable scholars to publish in top academic journals.

The course starts by discussing why academic writing and publishing is important. Then, topics such as journal selection and general recommendations about academic writing and style are worked out. Next, the course participants will learn to build the structure of the different sections that comprise an empirical paper. Students will learn some useful strategies in this regard to identify and avoid common pitfalls in academic writing. They will also learn some actions that can be carried out before submitting a paper to a journal. Based on his experience, the instructor will explain how the review process works and will give some recommendations to deal with reviews and decisions. Finally, some ethical aspects related to publishing will be discussed.
