PhD Seminar “Quantitative Research Methods using R-Studio” [2026]

The short course aims to enrich the knowledge of students on how to use R in their research endeavors, starting from a basic understanding of how R processes data, importing and cleaning data, manipulation, and visualization. They are followed by the intermediate level of statistical analysis starting from measures of spread and measures of centrality, hypothesis testing, simulations, probabilities, logistic and linear regression. Finally, supply chain use cases are demonstrated using R which comprises the use of machine learning and forecasting. Throughout the course, theoretical concepts are presented in slides along with discussion with the students followed by application of concepts with exercises using R coding language. At the final part of the course, students will get to understand how the output from the analysis implemented in R can be used in research writing including but not limited to plot generation, tables formulation and model printing using the conversion tools between R coding language and Latex coding language. The students will do the exercises in between the discussion and applications in class. In addition, students will be provided with further reading materials to serve them as guide while they use R in the future.

Haytham Omar obtained his PhD from the university of Bordeaux in supply chain management and has been teaching supply chain and analytics courses in Kedge business school since 2021. Haytham also is an independent trainer and consultant. He conducts training programs in data analysis using R and Python, supply chain management and procurement trainings. His passion is using data and intelligence to derive supply chain excellence. In consulting, Haytham developed solutions for multinational retailers related to replenishment decisions, buying decisions and pricing decisions, as wells as, standard reporting and problem-solving tasks. From his clients Sephora in both France and Dubai, also Sharaf Retail group in Dubai. Using those tools, retailers automatically make decisions regarding inventory in stores.
