Who We Are

LEARN Logistics gGmbH is a charity limited organization and implements its logistics education projects internationally. Its headquarters is in Hamburg, Germany, and further offices, particularly in Africa, ensure a close collaboration with LEARN´s benefitting local organizations and universities. Besides the global Leadership and Program Management team who are based in the Hamburg office, the majority of LEARN`s total more than 20 staff are stationed at the offices in Dar Es Salaam, Usa River, and Mbeya (Tanzania), in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), and in Abuja (Nigeria). Please note that we implement logistics education projects not only in the countries with own LEARN workplaces, but also in neighboring countries to our offices in Africa, and more generally in many low- and middle-income countries globally. Andre Kreie (PhD) is Managing Director at LEARN Logistics by Kühne-Foundation based in Hamburg, Germany. He is a Business Economist and holds a PhD and Masters in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK. Being with the Kühne Foundation for 10 years, Dr. Andre, in his current role, leads the education unit LEARN of the Kühne-Foundation that addresses capacity building in middle- and low-income countries related to logistics, supply chain management, leadership, and strategy. Besides his frequent teaching in business programs at different universities and further education institutions globally, Andre is a regular member of the International Advisory Boards of Edinburgh Business School (EBS), UK, and Arizona State University (ASU), US for the CARISCA Project in collaboration with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana. Since October 2023, Dr. Andre also chairs the International Advisory Board of the Logistics Institute of Central Asia (LICA). Prior to joining the Kühne Foundation, Dr. Andre completed a professional multi-year traineeship with a logistics company to understand and apply all operational procedures required in sea-, air-, and land-transportation. He gained further work experience in the supply chain business with a globally operating logistics service provider and worked as project manager for logistics design and operations with a leading European DIY-retailer. His research interest is on organizational and network learning, and supply chain risk management to enable the adaptations of logistical systems to a changing environment. In 2014, Dr. Andre won the International Emerald/EFDM Outstanding Doctoral Research Award for his PhD thesis on “The Adaptation of Supply Chains to Climate Change”.

Dr. Daniel Zapata holds a PhD in Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Developing Countries from Leuphana University (Germany), and a PhD in HR Psychology from the University of Valencia (Spain). Daniel is actively engaged and vocationally oriented towards sustainability, supply chain management education, entrepreneurship and innovation, and empowerment and gender equality in developing countries. Before joining LEARN Logistics by Kühne Foundation, he worked as a consultant for the World Bank and as adjunct lecturer at Leuphana University. Daniel has been working on international development initiatives in more than a dozen of countries in Latin America, Africa, and Asia (currently focusing on East Africa). Prior to his start at LEARN Logistics by Kühne Foundation in May 2018, he worked as a consultant at the World Bank, during which time he was awarded the Vice President Unit Team Award for “Innovating to Promote Female Entrepreneurship in Mexico”. Since June 2024, Daniel has been “Prokurist (ppa.)” with LEARN Logistics gGmbH.

Jorida Gjergji obtained her degree “Master of Laws (LL.M.)” in European and European Legal Studies at the University of Hamburg in Germany. Prior to joining LEARN Logistics by Kühne Foundation in December 2019, Jorida worked as Project Assistant for “Improvement and Expansion of Financial Services in Rural Albania,” a project implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Rabobank, EFSE, and FED invest. She has also worked as a Research Assistant in Education Policy for Harvard GSD-Tirana Fellowship, supported by the Department of Urban Planning and Design at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Jorida studied law at the University of Tirana, Albania. Her expertise lies in the law of international organizations and financial services in developing countries. Another area of interest is Logistics and Supply Chain Capacity Building Programs in Eastern Africa and associated financial flow and reporting. Jorida has been actively involved in advocacy and civic engagement, mainly supporting local capacity building, community empowerment, and democratic governance. Since 2024, Jorida has received “in Vollmacht (i.V.)” with LEARN Logistics gGmbH.

Dr. Julia Kleineidam is an industrial engineer and holds a PhD in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from TU Berlin. After completing her Master's degree at TU Berlin in 2015, she worked for two years in an IT consultancy and managed various IT and digitalization projects. At the same time, she worked as a guest lecturer at TU Berlin. In 2017, she joined the Chair of Logistics at TU Berlin as a research assistant. During her doctorate period, she taught logistics and supply chain management, led research projects in East Africa, and worked on her PhD on food loss management in East African food value networks. Dr. Julia has been with LEARN Logistics by Kühne Foundation since September 2023, and manages the project funded internally by Kühne Foundation in Switzerland, and focusses specifically on projects related to sustainable agro-logistics.

Wolf-Christian Noske is a logistics professional with comprehensive international work experience in the commercial and humanitarian sector. He holds a Bachelor Degree in “International Business Logistics and Management” as well as a Master Degree in “Development and Emergency Practice”, from Oxford Brookes University in the UK. Christian has worked as Project Manager in High Value Supply Chain operations with one of the globally leading Logistics Service Providers. In 2011, he joined the German Red Cross as Senior Logistics Delegate for the recovery phase of the Red Cross earthquake operation in Haiti. Since 2014 Christian has been working for LEARN Logistics by Kühne Foundation, and has been focusing on the design and implementation of capacity building related particularly to TVET and vocational training in logistics and supply chain management in the East-African Region.

Frederik Pfretzschner has an undergraduate degree in transport economics and holds an M.Sc. in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, UK. In his current Program Manager role, Frederik predominantly focuses on research projects in collaboration with universities in East and West Africa. In parallel, Frederik is undertaking his PhD studies at Heriot-Watt University with a particular focus on the role of knowledge and organizational learning in the context of new service development within logistics service providers. Prior to joining LEARN Logistics by Kühne Foundation, Frederik worked as project manager at the German Logistics Association (BVL). Besides multiple years of professional experience in the logistics industry, his work history also includes working as teaching assistant at the German Academy for Foreign Trade and Logistic (DAV) and Bremen University of Applied Sciences.

Dr. Shawa works as Regional Manager for the African continent and holds a PhD (HE), an MSS (Development Studies), and an MEd (Education Policy Studies). He has more than 17 years of work experience in university teaching, research, and management. His rare combination of expertise in higher education studies (policy, governance, management, curriculum, pedagogy, and quality discourses); international development; policy discourses, and teacher education gives him great technical insight into how education systems can be utilized in furtherance of development. As part of LEARN Logistics, Dr. Lester works with universities in East- and West-Africa to support the development of supply chain education in the Sub-Saharan region.

Thomas Mugassa is the Head of Finance and HR with the Kühne-Foundation Tanzania based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He is a Certified Public Accountant CPA(T) and currently pursues his Master of Business Administration in Corporate Management at Mzumbe University, Dar es Salam Campus, Tanzania. Prior to joining the Kühne-Foundation Tanzania, Thomas gained further work experience in all areas of finance and administration activities. He provides strategic analyses for senior management to determine a project and company profitability, and as the custodian of all financial resources of the organization, he also develops policies and procedures including writing and maintaining the financial manual to ensure compliance with regulations and tax laws. In his current role, Thomas is the Custodian of the organization’s financial resources and HR activities, and also assists the Senior Management on administrative and operational tasks.

Florah Michael is a Project Manager at Kühne Foundation Tanzania. She pursued a Bachelor degree in procurement and supply chain management (BSc) from St John’s university of Tanzania. Prior to joining the Kühne Foundation Tanzania , Florah gained further operational work experience in logistics and supply chain management with different organization, and also had the role of assistant project coordinator on KIZAZI KIPYA project, which was prepared by Chalinze district council and funded by USAID. Further, Florah worked closely with management teams to plan, develop, coordinate, and execute technical strategies of the program. Her current activities with Kühne Foundation Tanzania comprise the training of Tanzanian youth in logistics, supply chain management, entrepreneurship, and job readiness related to agro- and health logistics. Florah also delivers consultancy services to improve agro-logistics at a farm level and strategic and operational improvement of food supply chains.

Mathayo holds a bachelor’s degree in Tax Management from the Institute of Finance Management (IFM) in Tanzania. Before joining Kühne Foundation Tanzania, he accumulated extensive experience in people management and human resource coordination in different offices where he took on the role of an administrative officer. His responsibilities included overseeing administrative operations, managing staffs, and ensuring the efficient functioning of the office. Additionally, Mathayo played an important role as a government representative, where he was responsible for collecting and verifying residential address information from communities. This task involved working closely with local populations to gather accurate data, a role that demanded excellent communication skills and a strong understanding of community dynamics. His diverse professional background has equipped him with a solid foundation in both operational and human resource management currently he works as Administrative Officer at Kühne Foundation Tanzania.

Simon Kawonga works as Project Manager with Kühne Foundation Tanzania. He holds a Bachelor degree in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness (AEA) from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA). For more than three years, Simon has been engaged working with the community as an experienced natural and social scientist. His main activities focused on supporting farmers in areas of production and marketing of farm produced, environmental conservation, value chain development, climate smart, establishment and strengthening farmer platforms, and conducting research on situation analysis. In his current role, he contributes to the SAFA-project to support the Tanzanian youth and assists to establish and manage profitable and sustainable activities along agriculture value chains. Particularly, Simon focuses on the use of agricultural practices as well as improved post-harvest handling and improved marketing and logistics operations.

Upendo Marenge works as Project Manager with Kühne-Foundation Tanzania and is based at the Usa River office. This project unlocked the potential of horticulture value chains, increased value and volume of high-quality products to market, and promoted inclusive economic growth in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Upendo has been training farmers from different regions of Tanzania on Agro-ecological farming, Climate smart agriculture and Organic farming practices through demonstration plots and farmer field school approaches. In her current role, Upendo designs and creates food supply chain content and delivers trainings to farmers.

Asende Justin M. is Monitoring and Evaluation Manager at the Kühne-Foundation Tanzania. Additionally, Asende obtained experience as an M&E professional with 6+ years of experience in Monitoring, Evaluation and learning, Project Planning and Management and Research. His expertise includes developing M&E frameworks, methodologies, and data collection tools to assess and improve programs, conducting data quality assessment, analysis & visualization and reporting. Passionate about designing and implementing impact evaluation methodologies such as RCTs and field experiments, He won the Impact Evaluation Research Grant at the ESRF under the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Prior to joining Kühne Foundation Tanzania, he worked with different local organizations, including USAID-funded partners. In his current role at KF Tanzania, Asende Justin foresees the implementation of the SAfA project activities, monitoring the progress and measuring results towards program effectiveness and impact.

Grace Nifasha Rusasa is a Project Manager at the Kühne Foundation Tanzania. Prior to joining Kühne Foundation Tanzania, Grace gained further work experience as a monitoring and evaluation officer with a progressive five years of experience in the field at different national and international organizations in Tanzania. Grace also worked with PEPFER and USAID-funded partners implementing community-based and facility-based HIV prevention care and treatment, vulnerable children (OVC), and TB care and prevention. In her current role, Grace implements M&E activities at Kühne Foundation Tanzania, as well as coordinates project activities in gender and communication issues.

Dr. Ramatu Abdulkadir joined LEARN Logistics by Kühne Foundation in the role of Senior Program Manager in January 2024, and holds a Ph.D. in Transport Logistics from Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool, UK. Before joining LEARN Logistics by Kühne Foundation, Dr. Ramatu made significant contributions to healthcare supply chain transformation in Nigeria, in collaboration with governments, donors, and private sector partners. She led the transformation of the Kaduna State health supply chain systems, serving over 10 million people to save lives. She is recognised for her contribution to logistics and supply chain management as a policy analyst, development strategist, circular economy champion, and subject matter expert.

Prior to start working for LEARN Logistics by Kühne Foundation in 2017, Akut has actively been involved in the professional development of talents in the field of logistics and supply chain management with a focus on the health sector in English speaking sub-Saharan African countries. He consulted various private and public organizations and helped to transform their logistics operations to a more efficient and effective performance.
