LEARN Alliances & Success Stories
Liverpool John Moores University PhD Project
Ongoing project
Since 2021, LEARN Logistics and Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) have been collaborating in the area of PhD education to help universities in low- and middle-income countries in a sustainable way to expand their faculties with a doctorate degree to reasonable levels. This vital task of increasing the number of tenured academics begins with the LJMU faculty offering main supervision or co-superversion of the selected PhD candidates. Specficially with LJMU, LEARN Logistics supports enrolled PhD candidates who live in the United Kingdom for the duration of their full-time study, but also provides regular scholarship for LJMU-enrolled full-time doctorate candidates who live in their home countries, e.g., in Ethiopia. Both options result in numerous academics who will graduate with a specialized PhD in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and will eventually have the capabilities to supervise the next generation of PhD candidates directly at their home universities and in their home countries themselves.
This partnership between LEARN Logistics and LJMU is a good example for the Network Model in which an international university with the support of LEARN Logistics-provided PhD scholarships, can address the strong demand for highly qualified faculty with a PhD in LSCM in low- and middle-income countries.
